The OAE XD190-1 was an experimental drone paper airplane designed by OrigamiAirEnterprises in an attempt to design a paper airplane with a variable-geometry ("swing wing") to replace both the OAE D159-1 Javelin and OAE D160-1 Cardinal with one aircraft. In testing, the XD190-1 exhibited poor reliability and vicious roll characteristics. Added dihedral to the horizontal stabilizers and ventral fins failed to alleviate these problems. For this reason, OrigamiAirEnterprises concluded its flight testing of the aircraft after only a brief period. Despite its shortcomings, the XD190-1 proved that a variable-geometry wing could be crafted with paper.
The XD190-1 is the first known attempt by anyone to make an original paper airplane with variable-geometry wings. Although itself a failure, the XD190-1 will likely influence later paper airplane designs. As of April 2012, however, OrigamiAirEnterprises has no such aircraft planned.
